Madison–State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette) released the following statement regarding Green Bay and Marinette School Districts receiving mental health funding from the Department of Public Instruction:

“I am happy to see that both the Green Bay and Marinette School Districts received nearly $60,000 in funding to provide school-based mental health services for our children. Coupled with our investments in school safety grant funding as well the over $630 million investment made in the state budget in public schools, I am confident that we are getting help and treatment to those who need it.”

Over the last six years, Wisconsin has made $50 million in investments and reforms in mental health, aimed at providing support to those who need it. Most recently in the state budget, the Legislature created two new aid programs related to student mental health in order to provide services in schools and connect students to area health care providers.

Additionally, the budget provided funding for targeted mental health services and counseling in five elementary school in Milwaukee and provided $1 million for the child psychiatry consultation program.

“These investments move Wisconsin the right direction. Giving our most vulnerable citizens avenues for success and treatment in their most formative years of learning and development is crucial. I look forward to continuing to find ways to provide the support our children need.”
