RACINE, WI – Late Friday, Legislative Republicans released a five-bill package for the lame duck session. The 287-page package includes 42 sweeping changes to Wisconsin’s government, from changing the governor’s powers, gutting the Attorney General’s office, and changing the 2020 election schedule for the benefit of a conservative candidate, to attempts at voter suppression via limits to early and absentee voting and changes to Wisconsin’s social safety net. Representative Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) issued the following statement in response:

“The people of Wisconsin sent a clear signal on November 6th. We need to be reaching across the aisle and working together on a new vision for our state. But instead of respecting the election process, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Scott Fitzgerald are playing politics, transferring authority from the Governor and gutting the Attorney General’s office, and gifting that power to the Republican-controlled legislature.

“This package is a grab-bag of partisan priorities aimed at concentrating Republican power at the expense of Wisconsin’s citizens and taxpayers. They deserve better,” Neubauer concluded. “I hope my Republican colleagues realize the same on Tuesday.”
