Madison – Yesterday, two bills authored by Rep. Amy Loudenbeck (R-Clinton) were signed into law by Governor Scott Walker. Assembly Bills 735 and 809 became 2017 Wisconsin Acts 324 and 277.
Act 324: was introduced at the request of the Department of Revenue (DOR) and co-authored with Sen. Day Feyen (R-Fond du Lac). It makes several minor policy changes and corrections to tax law to protect taxpayers and make tax administration more efficient. Changes included in the bill will allow employers to truncate Social Security Numbers on W-2s and 1099s as a safeguard against identity theft starting in 2019, and allows for optional electronic notifications giving taxpayers the choice to receive electronic notifications via the department’s My Tax Account portal.
“Wisconsin residents expect that DOR will provide timely service and protect taxpayer confidentiality. Act 324 makes the necessary adjustments in state statutes to ensure DOR is able to meet the expectations hardworking taxpayers in Wisconsin,” said Rep. Loudenbeck.
Act 277: was introduced at the request of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) and co-authored by Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and Rep. Jason Fields (D-Milwaukee). It makes limited changes while providing necessary flexibilities for WHEDA to continue to work closely with lenders, developers, local units of government, nonprofits, community groups, and others to meet an increasing need for affordable housing financing options. AB 809 also creates flexibility by expanding the use of the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Fund reserves to include the Down Payment Assistance (DPA) Program and makes changes to the Transform Milwaukee Initiative Pilot by authorizing WHEDA to refinance an existing mortgage under a very specific and limited set of circumstances.
“Act 277 will help WHEDA invest more of non-taxpayer dollars into programs where the current demand exceeds the dollars available and will help WHEDA achieve their vision to provide tools to help people and communities realize their hopes and dreams,” said Rep. Loudenbeck.
During the 2017-2018 Legislative Session, Rep. Loudenbeck authored nine bills that were signed into law as 2017 Wisconsin Acts 11, 12, 66, 204, 203, 224, 277, 324 and 336.
