MADISON – State Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay) released the following statement after the Wisconsin Department of Tourism awarded a JEM (Joint Effort Marketing) grant to the Door County Maritime Museum:

“I am thrilled to hear that the Door County Maritime Museum has received a JEM grant from the state. The Maritime Museum is an attraction that is one of the cornerstones of our region’s tourism. This partnership with the Department of Tourism will further enhance the Museum’s ability to attract visitors and promote their educational exhibits.

The Department of Tourism JEM Grant Program awards grants to non-profit organizations for projects which promote tourism in the state. The funds granted are to be used for advertising and marketing the event. The Door County Maritime Museum has received a $39,550 grant for their new interactive exhibit, whose unveiling will run from mid-May through mid-September of this year.

“The upcoming ‘Shipwrecks of Door County’ Exhibit will highlight the significant maritime history of Northeast Wisconsin and is projected to have an economic impact of over $1.7 million to the region. I want to thank the Department of Tourism for recognizing the value of this project, and I am excited to visit this exhibit once it opens.”
