Support for women’s rights is fueling political activism ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections. Consider:
- One-in-five Americans have engaged in protests or attended rallies since the beginning of 2016, and nearly 50 percent cite women’s rights for spurring them to action.
- A record number of women have run and won primary victories.
- Women are the largest voting demographic and a recent NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll from the end of September found that women want Democrats to control Congress by a lopsided 58 percent to 33 percent.
At a time when the issues of women’s rights and women’s health are motivating voters in unprecedented ways, Planned Parenthood Votes has a unique role to play in getting women and infrequent voters who have been impacted by attacks against their access to health care and to their rights to the polls. That’s why Planned Parenthood Votes and local Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations are running their largest midterm electoral program ever, and it’s why they will be out in full force during Get Out the Vote (GOTV) week to help elect candidates who will protect our health care and rights. Below is a rundown of some GOTV efforts this week and over the weekend.
In Wisconsin:
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin has been engaged in a statewide effort to turnout supporters who share our values. Canvassers are having conversations in English and Spanish in Milwaukee, Dane, Racine and Waukesha counties. Volunteers have sent over 40,000 text messages to supporters. Our statewide digital program will reach over 500,000 voters.
- PPAWI volunteers will be canvassing all over the state November 3-5 in both English and Spanish.
- On Monday, November 5, PPAWI will be joining coalition partners for a Text Out The Vote event in downtown Madison (time and location TBD) with the goal of reaching 100,000 voters before the polls close on election day.
