MADISON, Wis. — The writings and transcript of a radio interview given by Donald Trump’s nominee to fill a vacancy on the Eastern District of Wisconsin federal court, Gordon Giampietro, reveal he holds views that disqualify him from a lifetime appointment to the federal court.

The online news site Buzzfeed first reported on the public statements Giampietro failed to disclose to a bipartisan Wisconsin nominating commission.

The following are the statements of One Wisconsin Institute Program Director Analiese Eicher:

“Anyone with the vile views like Giampietro expressed about racial equality and diversity, members of the LGBTQ community and a woman’s right to make her own reproductive decisions has no business on the bench.

“The fact that he also refused to disclose his writings and comments only adds to his shameful behavior.

“The most basic promise of our legal system is that everyone is equal before the law, and Giampietro has shown with his own words that that he does not share those values.

“He is not qualified for a lifetime judicial appointment and he ought to do the right thing and withdraw himself from consideration for this nomination, and any others in the future.”
