The DGA’s newest TV ad features a woman fighting breast cancer who charges Gov. Scott Walker “doesn’t seem to care about families like mine.”
The spot features a woman identified as Mary, of Madison, who recalls finding out she had breast cancer and immediately thinking of her daughter, wanting to see her graduate from high school and “what she does with her life.”
The ad then shows a picture of Walker as the screen reads, “Scott Walker would let insurance companies take away protections for people with pre-existing conditions.”
Mary then says if Walker takes away protections for pre-existing conditions, she wouldn’t be able to “afford the treatments that are saving my life. It’s a matter of life and death for me.”
She then closes the spot, “Scott Walker just doesn’t seem to care about families like mine.”
A House GOP bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act would have allowed states to obtain waivers from restrictions on preventing insurers from charging customers more for coverage because of their health history. Walker initially said he would consider seeking such a waiver if the bill became law.
Walker later called on the state Legislature to change Wisconsin law to provide protections for those with pre-existing conditions, though he’s also been criticized by Dems for backing a lawsuit that would overturn Obamacare, which already includes such provisions.
The DGA said the spot, done through A Stronger Wisconsin, is part of a new seven-figure buy that follows up its original $1.8 million run.
