U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin continued to hit her GOP rival over health care with a new ad that features a woman who says she’s outraged Leah Vukmir would “let insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions.”
Baldwin’s last spot knocked Vukmir, R-Brookfield, for opposing a bill that required insurance companies to cover oral chemotherapy as they do intravenous treatments.
The new ad features Chelsey Schaumberg, of Seymour, who says her daughter Zoe was born with two heart defects and will “always have a pre-existing condition,” as do 2 million other Wisconsinites.
“So, I’m outraged that Leah Vukmir wants to let the insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions,” Schaumberg says before asking, “What would happen to Zoe?”
Schaumberg then says Baldwin is “leading the fight” in the Senate to protect coverage for those with pre-existing conditions.
“For our family, the choice is really clear,” she says the close the spot.
In a statement last month, Vukmir said people with pre-existing conditions should be covered and noted Wisconsin once had a high-risk pool that did so. But Dems have knocked her for not offering specifics and supporting a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which currently provides those protections in Wisconsin.
