Madison, WI – Local activists, survivors of sexual assault, concerned constituents, and community leaders gathered today at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison to send Senator Ron Johnson a clear message: Vote NO on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination as his hostility towards women and lack of credibility make him unfit to serve a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court.

Part of a nationwide day of action, more than 70 Wisconsinites showed their support for survivors and opposition to Kavanaugh by holding signs and vigil candles at sunset while organizers Mindy Wara Maciolek with NARAL Pro-Choice America and Dayna Long with the International Socialist Organization shared their stories, led chants such as “Kava-NAH!” and “I believe Anita Hill! I believe Christine Ford!,” and invited attendees to share their stories.
“Americans cannot afford to appoint Brett Kavanaugh after he has repeatedly shown so little regard for women and our basic human rights,” states NARAL Pro-Choice Organizer, Mindy Wara Maciolek, “As a survivor, a mother, and a constituent of Senator Ron Johnson’s, I shared my story tonight, even though it was hard, in hopes that he will hear us. We believe survivors. We are survivors. Senators must listen to their constituents and vote NO on Kavanaugh.” Organizers went on to share upcoming actions: – October 4 at 4:00pm: Walkout Against Sexual Assault #CancelKavanaugh Bring your signs, your voices, your friends, and your passion while we march to the steps of Wisconsin’s Capitol where we will read our demands and speak out against sexual assault, Kavanaugh, and rape culture. – October 8 at 6:00pm: Send Thank You Postcards to Dr. Ford! Feeling hopeless and helpless regarding the Kavanaugh hearings? One little thing you can do is send Dr. Christine Blasey Ford a postcard of support. Join survivors and allies to talk, heal, and say #ThankYouDrFord.

Local partners include NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Madison branch of the International Socialist Organization. National partners include the ACLU, Center for Popular Democracy Action, CREDO, Indivisible, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Mom’s Rising, MoveOn, NARAL, National Women’s Law Center, Planned Parenthood, and UltraViolet.
