Single Mom and 24-year High School Teacher Concedes Congressional Race

Racine, WI – Yesterday, Randy Bryce won the Democratic Party’s nomination to face corporate lawyer Bryan Steil, the Republican nominee, in the race to replace retiring House Speaker Paul Ryan this November.

After thanking her supporters last night, Cathy addressed concerns that the primary had gotten heated in the final weeks, “Both Randy Bryce and I know just how much is at stake this November, and I know each of us gave everything we had to this campaign. His hard-fought victory tonight is well-deserved.”

In her concession speech, a portion of which can be viewed here, Myers said, “To anyone who thinks this campaign was too fiery at times, Randy and I both have a message: Bryan Steil and the Republicans had better get ready, because we’re on the same team now, and we’re going to give them everything we’ve got for the next three months!”

Citing Republican efforts to cut Social Security and Medicare, restrict reproductive rights, and voucherize public schools, Myers said “Randy and I are unwaveringly united with the people of Southeast Wisconsin because we have had enough of Republican efforts to strip away healthcare and to give a trillion-dollar tax cut to those who need it the least.”

Cathy Myers is a 24-year veteran public high school teacher who is currently serving in her second term on the Janesville School Board. She is a single mom and avid motorcycle rider. She is the former Congressional candidate in Wisconsin’s 1st District who raised over $1.4 million solely from individual contributions averaging just $23.

Wisconsin’s 1st District is rated a “toss-up” by Sabato’s Crystal Ball.
