WASHINGTON, DC — Dreamers who are part of a 140-member delegation to Capitol Hill from

across the nation will be joined at a news conference by Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-AZ, American

Jewish Community, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), Jewish Community Relations

Council (JCRC) of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs

(JCPA). The Dreamers’ trip during this critical week for the DREAM Act is sponsored by the

Hispanic Federation and League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

The goal of the push on Capitol Hill is to convince Congress to pass this week emergency

legislation for the almost 800,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients

whose permits are expiring daily. Immigrants’ rights advocates also call for relief for refugees

who face uncertain and perilous futures because of the anti-immigration debate.

While on Capitol Hill through Friday, the Dreamers from California, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa,

Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington, D.C., will be

delivering letters and visiting offices of members of Congress, attend a vigil and be available for

news media interviews. With the must-pass government funding bill scheduled to expire this

Friday, Dreamers and their advocates, including members of Congress in both parties, strongly

support passing the DREAM Act this week.

Please join the news conference Wednesday, January 17, at 1 PM at the House Triangle.
