Green Bay — Beau Liegeois, candidate for Congress, WI-08 provides the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s current border policy of taking children away from their families at the border.
Nothing is more sacred than the family unit. As a father, nothing means more to me than my child, and I understand how much a child depends on their parents. The Administration’s policy of removing a child from their parents at the border comes from a very dark place, and is unacceptable in the 21st century in the United States, or anywhere else in the world. It is a remarkably cruel and unusual punishment to separate parents from their children, even in a detention facility. These are not the values of Northeast Wisconsin, and they are not the values of America.
Our priority should be passing a clean immigration bill to create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented families.
The Trump Administration owns this policy, as it is the result of their executive actions alone. It could also end by executive action alone. The Administration has chosen to hold families hostage for political gain, and I would not tolerate it as a United States Congressman. If the government chooses to separate a child from their parents, they better have an extremely justifiable reason for doing so, and political gain is the most shameful reason for doing so.
By remaining silent on this issue, Representative Gallagher is endorsing this anti-family, anti-Christian policy of separating children from their parents. He is our federal representative. Northeast Wisconsinites need to know what his position is, on taking children away from their families and incarcerating them in an empty Walmart on the border.
