BELOIT – Governor Scott Walker emphasized Beloit and Rock County’s substantial drop in unemployment since 2010 and increased business investment in the region at the Beloit Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner today.
“Wisconsin’s unemployment rate is at a record low of 3.0 percent and cities across the state are seeing more people working than ever before,” said Governor Walker. “Right here in Beloit, the unemployment rate has dropped from 13.5 percent when we took office, to a recent low of 3.2 percent. Businesses are also investing in Rock County to create hundreds of new jobs like Toledo Molding & Die, or Dollar General who both chose Wisconsin over other states for new facilities. Wisconsin’s economy is thriving, and our continued investments in job training and workforce development will bring even more businesses to our state and help move Beloit, Rock County, and Wisconsin forward.”

Since December 2010, Rock County’s unemployment rate has fallen from 9.9 percent to 2.8 percent at the end of last year. As of December 2017, 69 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties have unemployment rates lower than 5 percent., 63 have unemployment rates of 4 percent or lower, and 39 counties have rates of 3 percent or lower.

Janesville was selected as Dollar General’s 14th distribution site nationwide in 2015. The company is expected to create 552 jobs at its 1-million-square-foot facility, which opened in June 2017.

Toledo Molding & Die, a supplier for Chrysler, is investing $14 million in its facility in Beloit. The company is expected to create more than 110 new jobs.
