Proclaims June 17-22 Badger Girls State Week throughout Wisconsin

OSHKOSH – Governor Scott Walker addressed high school students from across Wisconsin today at the 75th Annual Badger Girls State Inauguration Ceremony in Oshkosh. More than 720 young women from throughout the state were selected to participate in Badger Girls State in an effort to provide them with firsthand experiences in the functions of city, county, and state governments.

“Badger Girls State provides young women in Wisconsin with the unique opportunity to apply government and leadership concepts they’ve learned in the classroom to real-life scenarios,” Governor Walker said. “As they work together throughout the week, they not only model a functioning government but also develop communication, teamwork, and leadership skills that they will carry with them in future endeavors.”

First held in 1937, Badger Girls State is a program of the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Wisconsin. This year’s event was held at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Governor Walker has proclaimed the week of June 17 – June 22, 2018 as American Legion Auxiliary Badger Girls State Week. A copy of the proclamation is here.
