Governor Walker Attends 55th Country Cat World Championship Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River
 
MADISON – Governor Scott Walker will visit Eagle River, the “Snowmobile Capital of the World,” tonight for the 55th Country Cat World Championship Snowmobile Derby. The Derby began January 18thand will conclude on Sunday, January 21 with the championship race.“This is one of the longest-running and most exciting tourism events in Wisconsin, drawing riders and tens of thousands of spectators from across the U.S. and Canada,” said Governor Walker. “I’m thrilled to be here for the Derby: it’s fun for the whole family, showcases the best of the best in snowmobile racing, and attracts people to an area that has so many great activities to offer visitors year-round.”

The World Championship Snowmobile Derby began as a small winter festival designed to draw tourists and winter sports enthusiasts to northern Wisconsin in 1964 in Eagle River. Since then, it has become known as the “Indianapolis 500 of Snowmobile Racing” and has grown into the world’s premiere snowmobiling competition, attracting more than 40,000 spectators annually from the United States and Canada and providing a substantial economic boost to Eagle River and the surrounding area.
