MADISON – Governor Scott Walker appointed Attorney Audrey Skwierawski today to serve as a judge on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, replacing retiring Judge John DiMotto.
“I am pleased to appoint Audrey Skwierawski to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court,” said Governor Walker. “Skwierawski brings to the bench over twenty years of public sector experience, the right judicial temperament, and a firm commitment to the rule of law. This experience, coupled with her numerous achievements and community involvement give me great confidence that she will make an excellent judge.”
Audrey Skwierawski has practiced law since 1992, serving as an Assistant District Attorney in Milwaukee County and now as an Assistant Attorney General at the Department of Justice in Madison. During this time, she has conducted more than one hundred jury trials and more than fifty court trials. Skwierawski has gained experience in all aspects of criminal litigation including double homicides, sexual assault, and general misdemeanors. Skwierawski serves on the Attorney General’s Statewide Sexual Assault Response Team and the State of Wisconsin Violence Against Women Act Advisory Committee.
Skwierawski has been involved with her community as a member of the Polish Heritage Alliance, the Washington Heights Neighborhood Association, and Pius XI High School Parent Producers. Skwierawski and her family are members of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and St. Sebastian Parish in Milwaukee.
Circuit Court Judge Stephanie Rothstein wrote in support of Skwierawski, “Audrey has all of the qualities which make her an excellent candidate for the bench. Her steady, even temperament and patient deliberate nature are “musts” for a judge in a busy docket.” Judge Rothstein adds, “Her ethics and commitment to the law will ensure that she serves the citizenry in a fair and impartial manner, according to the statutes and precedent.”
Deputy Attorney General Paul Connell highly recommends Skwierawski stating, “Audrey is nothing short of a legend in the community of prosecutors, especially among those who have spent their career handling the toughest cases involving sexual assault and domestic violence.” Connell adds, “Whether litigating in court, handling statewide training for DOJ, or mentoring DOJ’s younger attorneys, Audrey’s work on behalf of our office and for the people of Wisconsin has been nothing less than exemplary in every respect.”
Skwierawski received her juris doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center and her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. She resides in Milwaukee with her husband Frank and their two children.
