MADISON – First Lady Tonette Walker released the following statement thanking Senator Ron Johnson (WI) and Senator Heidi Heitkamp (ND) for their leadership in passing Senate Resolution 346 which recognizes the importance, effectiveness, and need for TIC among federal programs and agencies, and declares the Month of May as National Trauma-Informed Care Month and May 22nd as National Trauma-Informed Care Day.

“Declaring May 22nd as National Trauma-Informed Care Day and May as National Trauma-Informed Care Month brings us one step closer to improving the lives of children and families impacted by toxic stress and trauma,” said First Lady Walker. “Thank you to Senators Johnson and Heitkamp for their leadership in passing this resolution. We are always working to help share the power of TIC and its ability to transform our nation’s health and well-being—the addition of having a specific month and day to collectively raise our voices and increase awareness will give a tremendous boost to our efforts in Wisconsin and all over the world.”

Governor Scott Walker declared May as Trauma-Informed Care Awareness Month and May 22nd as Trauma-Informed Care Day. Governor Scott Walker and First Lady Walker traveled Wisconsin yesterday in honor of TIC Day. A lunch celebrating organizations and individuals using TIC in Wisconsin was also held at the Executive Residence.

With this Senate declaration, the United States will join Wisconsin in spreading awareness about TIC.
