TONY-MENTUM: Cook Political Report Moves WI-Gov Race from Lean R to Toss-up

Madison, WI — Today, the Cook Political Report moved the Wisconsin gubernatorial race from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up”, another key sign of momentum building behind Tony Evers’ campaign.

This change follows the Evers campaign’s recently announced strong fundraising haul, raising more than $2.5 million in the month since his primary victory. And it comes right after Scott Walker has been hit with a week of negative headlines, with his own former transportation secretary accusing him of hiding the truth on transportation spending and slamming his failure to maintain Wisconsin’s infrastructure, and Politifact calling his desperate attacks on Tony Evers “misleading” and “mostly false.”

The Cook Political Report’s ratings update is the most recent change in Evers direction. Previously, Inside Elections also moved the race from “Leans Republican” to “Toss Up” along with Sabato’s Crystal Ball, RealClearPolitics, Governing Magazine, and Daily Kos Elections.

“This is just the latest example that our campaign has the momentum we’ve already seen all across the state,” said Tony for Wisconsin Campaign Manager Maggie Gau. “Tony’s positive vision to invest in Wisconsin is resonating with voters who are tired of Scott Walker playing political games with our state’s future. Instead, families in Wisconsin are ready for Tony’s plan to improve schools, lower healthcare costs, and fix our failing infrastructure. It’s time for a change.”
