Vukmir has campaigned on being President Trump’s deciding vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions
Walker put Wisconsin on a lawsuit to strike down the Affordable Care Act and its pre-existing condition protections
MADISON — Vice President Mike Pence is joining the campaign trail today with Gov. Scott Walker and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir to tout their agenda to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and gut the health care law’s protections for Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions.
Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Martha Laning issued the following statement on Pence’s Wisconsin visit to boost Walker and Vukmir:
“With three days until Election Day, the Trump Administration is campaigning hard with Wisconsin Republicans to boost their shared agenda to take people’s health care away: If elected, Leah Vukmir will cast the deciding vote in the U.S. Senate to gut pre-existing condition protections, while Scott Walker put Wisconsin on a lawsuit to strike down the ACA and its pre-existing condition protections.
“Health care is on the ballot this election, and protections for 2.4 million Wisconsinites who have pre-existing conditions are at risk if Scott Walker is re-elected and Leah Vukmir is elected to the Senate.”
Background:
Gov. Scott Walker has for years called for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, including its protections for people with pre-existing conditions. And Walker authorized the Attorney General Brad Schimel lawsuit to strike down the health care law’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions as unconstitutional.
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir has campaigned on being the Trump Administration’s deciding vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and gut its protections for people with pre-existing conditions. When Pence visited Wisconsin in August, he touted Vukmir as a vote to gut pre-existing condition protections, saying that Republicans will “go back to” trying to gut pre-existing condition coverage protections “with Leah Vukmir in the Senate.” And in addition to framing her current U.S. Senate run as a campaign to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, Vukmir has for years sought to undermine the law and its protections.
