Students Chant at Walker’s Office, Demand “Bring Him Here”

Today, thousands of Wisconsin students are marching on the Capitol to demand action to prevent gun violence, but Governor Scott Walker is avoiding them, 250 miles away. Noting his absence, students chanted outside Walker’s office and demanded “bring him here.”

It’s no wonder why Walker wants to hide from these students: he knows his record of blocking common sense gun safety measures doesn’t go over well with Wisconsin students.

Even in the wake of the Parkland school shooting when other Republicans have backed gun safety measures, Governor Walker has failed to take meaningful action on gun violence prevention. Previously, Walker opposed efforts to close the gun show loophole that allows dangerous individuals to buy guns without a background check and even eliminated Wisconsin’s 48-hour waiting period for handgun purchases.

“Scott Walker may hide from students who march on the Capitol, but he can’t hide from his own record of blocking common-sense gun safety measures,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Wisconsin students, parents, and teachers are ready for new leadership and a Governor who will keep schools safe from gun violence.”
