GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Dairy Business Association today announced its support for state Sen. Howard Marklein in his re-election bid to represent Wisconsin’s 17th Senate District for another four years.

Marklein grew up on a dairy farm in southwestern Wisconsin. The work ethic instilled in him while on the family farm transitioned into a successful public accounting career and now into public office where he is considered one of the state’s hardest-working elected officials, the dairy organization said.

17th Senate District since 2014 and formerly served in the state Assembly beginning in 2010. In his legislative tenure, he has held numerous leadership roles and has championed many efforts to tackle the issues dairy farmers face as stewards of the land, producers of nutritious products and owners of businesses. The Dairy Business Association’s board of directors believes he will continue to zealously represent dairy farms of all sizes, Mike North, president of the association, said.

“Senator Marklein has proven to be a tireless advocate for the dairy community,” North said. “With his farming roots and financial background, he is not someone you need to educate in terms of the challenges facing the dairy community.”

Representing one of the most agriculture-dependent districts in Wisconsin, Marklein understands how important the economic contributions from dairy and agriculture are to our communities, North said.

“We are confident that Senator Marklein will continue to work toward advancing dairy farmers’ ability to succeed as business owners through sensible regulatory, tax and budgetary policies,” he said.

Marklein will be seeking re-election in the general election on Nov. 6. He does not have a Republican opponent in the primary on Aug. 14. Senate District 17 covers Grant, Juneau, Lafayette and Richland counties, and parts of Green, Iowa, Monroe, Sauk and Vernon counties in southwestern Wisconsin.
