Shannon Zimmerman has so far largely self-funded his campaign for western Wisconsin’s open 10th SD, helping him top fellow GOP state Rep. Adam Jarchow in the pre-primary period, according to reports filed with the Ethics Commission.
Zimmerman, R-River Falls, reported $215,568 in money received, $160,780 spent and $62,981 cash on hand as of Dec. 4. Of the money raised, $184,400 of it was loans Zimmerman gave the campaign; $90,000 of that came in on the final day of the reporting period.
Jarchow, meanwhile listed $151,253 raised, $35,038 in expenses and $149,579 cash on hand. The Balsam Lake Republican gave the campaign $50,000 on Dec. 4, the final day of the reporting period.
Fundraising was not as robust in the Dem primary for the 10th SD.
St. Croix Medical Examiner Patty Schachtner reported $13,210 raised, $90 spent and $13,120 cash on hand.
John Calabrese, of Glenwood City, reported $1,156 raised and $41 spent. The self-employed woodworker had $1,115 cash on hand.
Reuben Herfindahl, of River Falls and the owner of an IT services firm, did not have a report posted at the Ethics Commission site as of early this morning.
The primaries are a week from today.

In southeastern Wisconsin’s 58th AD, the Republicans with the most money raised largely pumped their own money into the race.
Steve Stanek, who owns a West Bend hazardous waste transportation and environmental consulting business, loaned his campaign $20,000. The only other donation he listed was $5 he gave himself to test online contributions. He spent $10,995.
Rick Gundrum, who serves on the Washington County Board, listed $16,600 in receipts, $16,500 of that through a personal loan. He spent $4,348 and listed $12,252 cash on hand.
Tiffany Koehler, who ran for the seat in 2014 and went on to serve as an aide for former Rep. Bob Gannon, raised $6,113, spent $2,601 and had $3,512 cash on hand.
Republican Spencer Zimmerman, who lives outside the district in Janesville and ran against House Speaker Paul Ryan last year, did not have a report posted to the Ethics Commission site as of early this morning.
The winner of the primary will face Dem Dennis Degenhardt, former president and CEO of Glacier Hills Credit Union, in the Jan. 16 general election. He raised $3,016, spent $856 and had $2,090 in the bank.
In Racine’s 66th AD, former legislative aide Greta Neubauer had a significant fundraising edge on Ald. John Tate.
Neubauer raised $38,381, spent $22,514 and had $15,867 in the bank.
Tate raised $6,979, spent $941 and had $6,037 left in the bank.
There are no other registered candidates for the race.
