[Madison, WI] — When Senator Tammy Baldwin announced that she would oppose the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to serve as the newest justice on the Supreme Court, she flip flopped and broke her word to Wisconsin.  Immediately following the judge’s nomination, Senator Baldwin said that she would “fully review” his record and meet with him before taking a position.  Less than 48 hours later, Senator Baldwin decided that she was opposed to Judge Gorsuch before even meeting him in person.
Check out what they said when Senator Baldwin broke her word to Wisconsinites:

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Baldwin’s statements Thursday go far beyond the position she took two days ago, immediately after the Gorsuch pick was announced, when the Wisconsin Democrat said in a statement she would give ‘fair consideration to this nomination’ and ‘fully review’ his record.”

From Politifact Wisconsin: “But now that Baldwin is in the minority and facing a Republican nominee, she is supporting a filibuster that creates a roadblock to reaching that final vote. Her claim to “support” a cloture vote makes no sense since that isn’t up to her party — cloture would be pushed by Republicans and is only needed if Baldwin and other Democrats pursue a filibuster. And that cloture vote would only advance the process, not result in a final decision on Gorsuch. That’s what we call a Full Flop.”

From The Cap Times: “Baldwin is among a group of red-state Democrats who will be targeted by the right if they block Gorsuch, but face pressure from supporters on the left to oppose him.”

From the Associated Press: “Republicans are accusing Baldwin of being a hypocrite since she had urged the Senate last year to quickly fill the vacancy caused by the death of Antonin Scalia. Republicans who control the Senate refused to take a vote on then-President Barack Obama’s pick Merrick Garland.”
