Starting next week, crews will begin repairs to a damaged girder on the Hart Road bridge over Interstate 39/90 southbound near Beloit. I-39/90 will remain open to two lanes (in each direction) during daytime hours with periodic nighttime single lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday. The bridge will be closed for three nights in late May for girder removal and placement of the new girder. The bridge will remain open to local traffic on Hart Road over the Interstate, with the exception of girder replacement and two other operations for deck work. Message boards along Hart Road will provide advanced notice of those nighttime closures.
These operations are necessary to repair a bridge girder damaged in a vehicle strike last fall. A dump truck struck the overhead girder on November 9, 2016. Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) bridge and maintenance crews were on scene to inspect the damage and determine possible solutions. The bridge was deemed safe for travel, although repairs were required within the next year.
The repairs will cost approximately $350,000 and will be completed by Zenith Tech, Inc. WisDOT will work with the driver’s insurance company for reimbursement for all repair costs. The repair work will remove and replace the damaged girder, including the deck and parapet in the immediate proximity of the girder.
All of the repair work is weather dependent. This project is expected to be completed by late July 2017.
