MADISON — GOP Senate candidate and out-of-state billionaire puppet Kevin Nicholson continues to stand with Roy Moore and their mutual supporter, Illinois billionaire Dick Uihlein. Nicholson has refused to reject Uihlein’s support following a Wednesday call to do so.

Nationally, Republicans have abandoned Moore as he faces sexual assault allegations from numerous credible women. Twenty-five Republican U.S. Senators have disavowed Moore’s candidacy. Both the Republican National Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee have ended their joint-fundraising agreements with Moore. But two prominent Republicans have stood steadfast alongside Moore throughout: Uihlein and Steve Bannon — Nicholson’s two best known out-of-state backers.

Nicholson’s campaign told the Associated Press that “our campaign doesn’t control the actions of outside groups,” but Nicholson’s campaign does have control over who donates to his campaign. Nicholson can at any time choose to return Uihlein’s $5,400 check to his campaign.

The truth is that Nicholson can return Uihlein’s donation and reject his support whenever Nicholson wants, and doing so is the only way for Nicholson to signal a clear rejection of Moore’s values.

“It’s deeply troubling that Kevin Nicholson is standing by his top out-of-state bosses Steve Bannon and Dick Uihlein as they defend Roy Moore, an accused sexual predator,” said Brad Bainum, Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson for the 2018 Senate race. “It’s a betrayal of our Wisconsin values for Nicholson to continue to stand with Roy Moore and Dick Uihlein over a donation.”
