Madison, Wis.–The Wisconsin Women’s Network (WWN) is excited to announce that they will be honoring Lisa Pugh of Stoughton for her excellence in advocacy and commitment to advancing the status of women and girls in Wisconsin at their annual Women’s Equality Dayevent on Thursday, August 24, 2017. Pugh, a great supporter of the WWN’s Policy Institute, has conducted training sessions for Institute participants on topics such as: tools for policy advocacy, advocacy plan development, careers in advocacy, and strategies for working in coalitions. The Wisconsin Women’s Network Policy Institute, soon embarking on its sixth year, trains women from across the state on the public policy process so they can be engaged advocates in their local and statewide communities on policy issues that matter to Wisconsin women and girls. Pugh embodies these skills, exemplifies the crucial role that coalition building plays in advocacy, and works to connect many women to the resources, like the Institute, they need to advocate for issues important to them.
Lisa Pugh is the Executive Director of The Arc Wisconsin, the state’s oldest grassroots disability advocacy organization supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families over the arc of their lifetime. She is also a former Kennedy Foundation Fellow who worked as a disability policy advisor for the United States Congress and the U.S. Department of Education in 2009-2010. She served as the Public Policy Director for Wisconsin’s Protection and Advocacy Agency, Disability Rights Wisconsin. She was appointed by President Obama as a representative on the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities in 2015 and served for U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Tom Perez on the Advisory Committee for Increasing Competitive Integrated Employment for Individuals with Disabilities from 2015-2016.
