MADISON, Wis. – State Sen. Leah Vukmir, R-Brookfield, and State Rep. Joe Sanfelippo, R-New Berlin, are reintroducing a bill that would expand Wisconsin’s Law Enforcement Officer Grant Program.
President of the Milwaukee Police Association Mike Crivello said, “We are proud to support Sen. Vukmir and Rep. Sanfelippo’s proposed Law Enforcement Officer Grant Program. Law enforcement agencies face unique challenges depending on their location and need the resources necessary to keep their communities safe. This proposal will help support officers in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin.”
The proposed legislation builds upon the existing grant program. It will allow law enforcement agencies, regardless of population, to apply. The bill will also allow applicants to prioritize their use of funds based on community needs.
“Public safety is a top priority of mine,” Sanfelippo said. “Police resources are being stretched thin because of habitual violent crime. We need to do more to keep our communities safe and this proposal would provide an additional $25 million in aid to law enforcement agencies.”
This legislation provides law enforcement with further financial support without raising taxes by more efficiently allocating Wisconsin dollars.
“By prioritizing spending, Wisconsin can reduce the victimization plaguing our communities,” Vukmir said.
