The Trump administration has announced the appointment of Steve King, a longtime GOP activist in Wisconsin, as ambassador to the Czech Republic.
King’s appointment had been expected. During a stop in Madison on Friday, House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Janesville, praised the RNC national committeeman, saying he has “done more for our party” that anyone else in Wisconsin.
According to the White House announcement, King also investigated civil rights violations for the FBI, was as an investigator for the U.S. Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and was special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
King is the second Wisconsin native in recent years to be appointed to the post. The other was Richard Graber, who served as ambassador under President George W. Bush from 2006 to 2009. Graber now heads the Bradley Foundation.
