MADISON — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction will conduct a hearing in September on proposed revisions to rules related to complaint resolution and appeals procedures.

The Sept. 5 hearing will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. at the DPI’s headquarters, GEF 3, Room P41, 125 South Webster Street, Madison. The hearing site is fully accessible to people with disabilities. For those who cannot attend the hearing, written comments sent to the department will be given the same consideration as public testimony.

The proposed rules will update Chapter PI 1 to revise complaint resolution and appeals procedures to conform with state statute. The proposed rules address all types of appeals and complaints that the department is required by law to hear unless another administrative rule or statute provide more specific procedures. In addition, the rule addresses the procedures related to contested case hearings, specifies the requirements for a proper appeal, and specifies who is responsible for paying for a transcript in a contested case hearing.

A copy of the proposed rules is available on the department’s Administrative Rules webpage or the Wisconsin Legislature Rules site. Written comments may be submitted in lieu of testimony by Sept. 15 online or sent to the department’s administrative rules coordinator by e-mail or U.S. mail. Send to Carl Bryan, 125 South Webster Street, P.O. Box 7841, Madison, WI 53707-7841.
