The Department of Health Services (DHS) announced today that Secretary Linda Seemeyer has accepted the resignation of Medicaid Director Michael Heifetz. Heifetz, who also serves as Administrator of the Division of Medicaid Services (DMS), is leaving the position to pursue career opportunities in the private sector.

“Michael has been invaluable in his role as Medicaid Director, representing Wisconsin’s vision for the future in the national spotlight,” said Secretary Linda Seemeyer. “We will greatly miss his leadership and insight, as well as his candor and energy.”

“Michael Heifetz has been exceptional in his leadership role as Medicaid Director, and prior to that, State Budget Director at the Department of Administration,” said Governor Scott Walker. “He has been a great asset to our Administration as we focus on innovation and reform, to help people move from government dependence to true independence. We thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

The Medicaid Director leads DMS, which administers Wisconsin’s Medicaid program providing health care assistance to low-income individuals and families, and oversees long-term care programs, serving older adults and people with disabilities. DMS also administers Wisconsin’s FoodShare program, including the FoodShare Employment and Training program (FSET), and works closely with the Income Maintenance Consortia to determine eligibility and offer ongoing case management.

Heifetz’s resignation is effective Wednesday, December 13. Deputy Administrator Casey Himebauch will serve as Interim Administrator of DMS.
