(New Orleans, LA)–Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards will welcome delegates and guests to New Orleans at Vietnam Veterans of America’s 18th biennial National Convention in New Orleans. The Governor will speak at the Convention’s General Session at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in Downtown New Orleans.

“We are particularly pleased that Gov. Edwards—a West Point graduate who served as an Army Airborne Ranger—will be addressing his fellow veterans,” said VVA President John Rowan. “Gov. Edwards knows what it’s like to serve your country in uniform—and he’ll be speaking to a group of men and women who share that knowledge and experience.”

Following his military service, Gov. Edwards was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, where he served for eight years. He became the state’s 56th Governor in January 2016.

More than 900 delegates from VVA chapters across the nation will join hundreds of other Vietnam veterans and guests in New Orleans, along with members of the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America, which will be holding its National Convention in conjunction with the VVA event. The delegates will set the organization’s course for the next two years, hear from an array of speakers, attend information sessions, and take part in special events.
