Madison – U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) along with his colleagues Reps. Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA), Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Donald Norcross (D-NJ) will bring together UW-Madison academic professionals, policy makers, and labor representatives from around the country for a discussion on the “Future of Work, Wages, and Labor” at the UW-Madison’s Memorial Union in the Festival Room  on Thursday, April 20 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The event is open to the media and a press availability with the Members of Congress and academic professionals will occur in between the two events at 12:30 p.m. This is the first Wisconsin event in a series of discussions and town halls that are being held this year in Congressional districts across the country.

With stagnating wages, declining union membership, and jobs being lost to technology and outsourcing each day, it is important to create policies that help American workers get ahead. Congressmen Pocan and DeSaulnier created the Future of Work, Wages, and Labor initiative last year, when they were both Members of the Education and Workforce Committee, to proactively grow and invigorate our labor force. They invited policymakers to hear the concerns and struggles working families face, and are now holding meetings with leading researchers across the country to anticipate the trends in the marketplace to identify pathways forward.
