MADISON, WIS. – Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Rodney Keys, 46, Madison, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 132 months in federal prison. On October 6, 2017, Keys pleaded guilty to committing five robberies of Madison businesses in April 2017.
Specifically, Keys admitted the following robberies:
§ On April 5, he robbed the Subway restaurant located at 1814 West Beltline Highway;
§ On April 6, he robbed both the Banzo Shuk restaurant at 1511 Williamson Street and the Open Pantry at 1412 Pflaum Road;
§ On April 10, he robbed the Subway restaurant at 4416 Pflaum Road;
§ Finally, on April 11, he robbed the Associated Bank, located at 4407 Cottage Grove Road.
The robberies of the local businesses involved actual and threatened force, violence, and fear of immediate injury to the employees. The bank robbery also involved force, violence, and intimidation.
The United States sought a sentence within the advisory sentencing guideline range of 151 to 188 months, due to Keys’ history of committing violent crimes and the seriousness of the crimes he committed which resulted in this conviction. Keys has many prior convictions, including first degree aggravated robbery and first degree criminal sexual assault.
The investigating agency was the Madison Police Department. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
