WASHINGTON—Wisconsin’s First District Congressman and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan today welcomed the Air Force’s announcement that the 115th Fighter Wing at Truax Field Air National Guard Base (ANG) in Madison, Wisconsin has been chosen to host an F-35A Operational Wing mission beginning in early 2023:

“This is a big day for Wisconsin’s military community and the whole region. The Air Force agrees that the great men and women of the Wisconsin Air National Guard are uniquely prepared to host the F-35. This decision boosts the Truax base, which is already such an integral part of the area, and contributes a great deal to our national security. I want to congratulate all the people in the community who worked tirelessly to make this possible, but most importantly the men and women of the 115th Fighter Wing, who represent us with integrity and excellence every single day.”

Background
Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson called Speaker Ryan this morning to notify him of the Air Force’s decision. Truax Field ANG was chosen alongside Dannelly Field in Alabama as one of two F-35A bases. Speaker Ryan and a bipartisan coalition of the Wisconsin congressional delegation worked to secure the F-35 for years. You can read the delegation’s most recent appeal to the Air Force here.
