The Dangers of the Senate Health Care Vote
(MADISON) – In response to the recent blitz of votes of US Senate Republicans regarding their efforts to endanger healthcare for nearly 33 million individuals, Sen. Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) expressed relief that this afternoon’s vote to repeal major portions of the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA) without a replacement failed.

Taylor lamented that while the GOP tries to save face, they are willing to let those most in need dangle in the wind.  Taylor joins US Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) in his call to “Let the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee under Chairman Alexander and Ranking Member Murray hold hearings, try to report a bill out of committee with contributions from both sides. Then bring it to the floor for amendment and debate, and see if we can pass something that will be imperfect, full of compromises, and not very pleasing to implacable partisans on either side, but that might provide workable solutions to problems Americans are struggling with today.”

Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) offered the following statement;

“When we start from a base of viewing affordable healthcare as a right, legislators will make better policy decisions both locally and federally. Instead, repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has become partisan red meat.  The sad fact is that many Republican constituencies stand to be harmed by a repeal and ill-thought replacement bill as much as anyone else.  When we do not work together, we all lose. Even as we face our own budgetary deadlock in the state, we must keep an eye on this national crisis.”
