Senate also approves elimination of State Treasurer
Madison, WI – Today, the Wisconsin State Senate passed two bills (SB 12 & SB 51) authored by Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg). Additionally, the chamber passed a constitutional amendment (SJR 3) to eliminate the office of the Wisconsin State Treasurer.
Senate Bill 12 – Relating to Multijurisdictional Health Mergers
“In the senate, I look to shrink the size of government. Last year, I was proud to move forward on a bill that allowed the Ozaukee and Washington Counties Health Departments to merge. This bill will improve the ability for all counties and municipalities to create merged health departments to provide the same services to constituents with more efficiencies,” said Senator Stroebel.
Senate Bill 51 – Technical fixes to Tax Increment Financing
“This bill was drafted at the request of the Department of Revenue as a general update to TID laws. When used appropriately and sparingly, TIDs can assist in the development of blighted areas. This bill eliminates obsolete statutes and ensures the DOR can effectively administer TID laws,” commented Senator Stroebel.
Senate Joint Resolution 3 – Elimination of the Office of State Treasurer
“Over the years, the Office of the State Treasurer’s responsibilities have been transferred to more efficient state agencies. As a legislator, I look for ways to streamline government services. The elimination of this obsolete office will ensure Wisconsin continues to implement common sense reforms,” remarked Senator Stroebel.
All three pieces of legislation will move to the Assembly for passage. If passed, SJR 3 will appear on a future election ballot for the citizens of Wisconsin to issue final approval.
