MADISON – State Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) offered the following statement regarding passage of Senate Bill (SB) 271, also known as the Cookie Bill:
“There is good news for home bakers in Wisconsin!  The cookie bill passed the state senate!

The State Senate passed Senate Bill 271 to make it legal to sell homemade baked and canned goods in Wisconsin.

This bill, also known as the Cookie Bill, has wide support among home-based bakers in the 17th Senate District and I was proud to vote “yes” to move this bill along in the legislative process.

The cookie bill enables home-based entrepreneurs to get a baking or canning business off the ground. Under this bill, entrepreneurs will be able to sell up to $25,000 in homemade goods per year before being subject to licensing as a baking establishment.

I know there are many home-based bakers who are ready to share their talents and delicious products with consumers and I am proud to have supported this bill.”
