Madison- State Senator Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) and State Representatives Terry Katsma (R-Oostburg) and Tyler Vorpagel (R-Plymouth) issued the following statement regarding the passage of State Highway funding for Highway 23:

“Highway 23 remains our highest concern as your state legislators in Sheboygan County. This summer after an unsuccessful appeal to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, area legislators urged the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to work with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to update and address the concerns in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

“While the Department works on updating this document area legislators have worked hard with colleagues on the Joint Finance Committee to insert Highway 23 into the 2017-2019 biennial budget so that the project is ready to move forward when the EIS is complete.

“Yesterday the Joint Finance Committee voted on the Transportation portion of the budget and in motion 413 directed WisDOT to set aside $19.4 million for the Highway 23 project during this biennium.

“This is a huge win for our area. The Highway 23 expansion is not only vital to the safety of motorists but also critically important to the growing businesses along the corridor.”
