MADISON – Today, Wisconsin State Senate Republicans voted to approve 2017 Assembly Bill 25, a bill that will roll-back child labor regulations.

Wisconsin State Senator LaTonya Johnson (D – Milwaukee) – the ranking Democratic member on the Senate Committee on Public Benefits, Licensing and State-Federal Relations – released the following statement regarding passage of this dangerous legislation:

“With passage of this legislation, Wisconsin Republicans are limiting the ability of parents’ of 16 and 17 year-old children to fully protect the life, health, safety, and welfare of their kids. This legislation effectively prioritizes cheap child labor over parental oversight and positive outcomes for our youth.

“As elected leaders, we should be fighting to promote the growth and well-being of our children and prioritize parental involvement in developing responsibility and a strong work ethic in their kids. Unfortunately, this legislation only erodes parental oversight and makes it harder to ensure that children get a quality education.

“I look forward to continue fighting for real solutions to help our community grow by focusing on raising family wages and expanding economic opportunities.”
