MADISON – Wisconsin State Senator LaTonya Johnson (D – Milwaukee) made the following statement regarding today’s vote on August 2017 Special Session Assembly Bill 1 on the Wisconsin State Senate floor:

“At a time when far too many people across the state are struggling to make ends meet and provide for their families, I would have loved to support legislation that brings quality, well-paying jobs to Wisconsin. Unfortunately, the legislation we voted on today is a bad deal for Wisconsin workers, taxpayers, and communities.

“Just like the Milwaukee Bucks committed to creating jobs and driving economic growth in a truly meaningful way in the construction of a new arena and surrounding development, we could have worked to do the same here. However, this legislation contains the largest state taxpayer giveaways to a foreign corporation in U.S. history without adequate protections for our communities or transportation and training opportunities for our workers.

“As a State Senator, I will continue to fight to bring more good-paying jobs to Wisconsin. However, the deal before us today is a bad one for Wisconsin, and our communities deserve better.”
