WASHINGTON — During an appearance on CNBC’s ‘Squawk Alley’ Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) spoke about his meeting with the president at the White House Tuesday night to discuss clean tax reform. Excerpts from Senator Johnson’s appearance are below, and video can be found here.
“I completely support the president’s attempt at reaching out. If we’re going to do big things in this country, it’s generally good to have support from all sides. Certainly one of the points I made to the president, both of us coming from the private sector, [was] to succeed in the private sector, you have to tenaciously pursue areas of agreement. Unfortunately in politics, often people exploit differences.”
“Let’s make sure that whatever we do in terms of taxes promotes growth because that’s how you put more money in American’s paychecks. Let’s get those areas of agreement down first, and I think we have a better chance, whether we pass it on bipartisan basis or using reconciliation.”
