[Madison, WI] Yesterday, WEC Energy Group announced that they have reached a settlement agreement with some of its largest business customers that, if approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW), would freeze We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service customer base rates for 2018 and 2019. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement:

“I was thrilled to hear that WEC Energy has reached a settlement that would freeze all customer base rates for the next two years. Utilities costs can represent a large portion of residential and commercial budgets and an agreement to hold rates at the current level is a win for Wisconsin businesses and residents alike.

I applaud this decision and urge the Public Service Commission to move quickly on approving the settlement. I also renew my call for the legislature to take a closer look at the current tax rates on Wisconsin’s utilities to ensure that we are exploring every avenue for providing relief to our state’s taxpayers.”

According to a release issued by WEC Energy, a decision by the PSCW is expected later this year.
