Madison – Assembly Republican leaders released the following statement regarding the state Senate GOP budget proposal that was released today. Assembly Republicans first put out a budget framework for transportation in January, a comprehensive tax and transportation plan in May, and an educational proposal in June.

“Assembly Republicans will give the proposal fair consideration as requested. It will be discussed and reviewed over the next few days.

“It’s good to see Senate Republicans have solidified their positions and are ready to come back to the table to complete work on the state budget.

“It’s clear we agree on a vast majority of the items in the two-year spending plan. We want to make a significant investment in schools and a reduction in taxes for working families. We appreciate that Senator Fitzgerald also admitted that additional revenue is needed for our roads; if not today, sometime in the future.

“We are committed to working through the process and finalizing the remaining educational issues such as school choice expansion and special need scholarships. However, Assembly Republicans would still like to see the expansion to 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.

“While we may not be on the same page on a few items, there isn’t a reason why we can’t work through the differences to find solutions that can pass both chambers in the coming weeks.”
