MADISON – Yesterday, Governor Walker was asked in an interview about Roy Moore, who has been accused of initiating sexual contact with teenagers when he was an Assistant District Attorney in his 30s. Almost 30 sources corroborated four women’s accounts which depict Moore preying on teenage girls as young as fourteen. Walker indicated Moore should step aside “If it’s true.” Walker also referenced a rumor that came out right before his recall election, saying “But you look at things like that that come out at the last minute, and you think, well of course that wasn’t true.” In response, Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison), issued the following statement:
“It’s outrageous that Governor Walker didn’t take the opportunity to denounce sexual abuse and exploitation of teenage girls by any adult, especially in the case of Roy Moore, which has been corroborated by over 30 sources. From insinuations by the Assembly Speaker that access to reproductive health care for sexual assault victims isn’t ‘germane,’ to the suggestion during the debate on AB 128 that women rape victims lie, to the tidal wave of reports of sexual assaults and harassment being perpetrated by men in positions of power, these reactions by the men who govern Wisconsin are exactly the reason women don’t come forward in the first place. Clearly, the men in power at the Capitol have a lot of work to do in understanding women’s experiences of sexual assault and harassment.”
