Madison, WisconsinToday, Task Force Co-Chairs Patrick Snyder (Schofield) and Steve Doyle (Onalaska) announced they will hold the committee’s first public hearing in Wausau. The hearing will begin at noon on Wednesday, August 23. The members will hear from invited speakers and the general public about the struggles they face when working with the foster care system.

“I am eager to bring the committee to Wausau to listen to the specific challenges and struggles my area faces when working with the child welfare system,” said Snyder. “With the insightful input we receive from our local stakeholders, we will be able to successfully craft legislation that will help address their concerns.”

The public hearing will begin with a focus on Community Response Programs (CRP). CRP provides voluntary supports to at-risk families who have been reported to child protective services but the case was screened out and the child was not removed from the home.

“After our informational hearing in Madison, we thought it was important to explore the programs that are there to meet the needs of families who are at-risk, but not screened into the system,” Doyle explained. “Hearing from a number of county CRP programs will help us dive into this area a bit further.”

The public hearing will be begin at 12:00 P.M at the Marathon County Public Library, located at 300 1st St., Wausau, WI 54403. Members of the public will have the opportunity to testify following invited speakers.
