Green Bay… Governor Scott Walker announced that as part of his 2017 Capital Budget $5 million will go towards opening a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Center in Green Bay. Representative John Macco (R-Ledgeview), released the following statement:
“I am beyond excited about this development,” said Rep. Macco. “I have been in conversations with President Rafn of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) and Chancellor Miller of the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay (UWGB) of how we can supercharge the local economy. This is the first step.”
If passed, the state will provide $5 million of the anticipated $15 million it will cost to build the center. It will be funded through a mix of private and public funding. Once announced, the Governor’s Capitol Budget Proposal will be considered by the Wisconsin Legislature.
“This proposal will work great in conjunction with UWGB leadership’s mission to create an engineering hub in Northeast Wisconsin,” continued Rep. Macco. “It is also another opportunity to talk to folks in Madison about the forward thinking ideas coming out of the Green Bay area.”
