Madison, WI: Governor Walker and leaders of the Wisconsin State Legislature announced today a deal with Taiwanese manufacturing company Foxconn to build a new factory in Wisconsin. Rep. Bob Kulp (R-Stratford) released the following statement.

“Foxconn was interested in Wisconsin due to our tech programs at our UW System and a trained workforce already available. Their proposed factory will manufacture LCD screens used in TVs, cars, cell phones and other electronics. According to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Foxconn will create up to 13,000 jobs and grow Wisconsin’s economy by $10 Billion.

Many states were in the running for Foxconn’s new plant. Foxconn could have located anywhere they wanted, but they choose Wisconsin. It is a huge indicator that this state is heading in the right direction economically.

A lot of effort went into getting Foxconn to commit to Wisconsin. I regularly travel to Taiwan where I have family which has given me a strong sense of their culture and commitment to democracy. This has led to my proud working relationship with the Taiwan’s Taipei Economic and Culture Office in Chicago. I sponsored Assembly Joint Resolution 48 earlier this year which passed the Wisconsin State Assembly to help strengthen Wisconsin and Taiwan’s economic relationship.

This is good for the entire state and an indicator of the work that our economic development offices along with our local governments can bring enormous benefits to the people of Wisconsin.”
