Madison – State Representative Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay) released the following statement regarding the recognition of Adopt-A-Soldier Door County founder, Nancy Hutchinson, as a Wisconsin State Assembly Hometown Hero:

“I am immensely pleased to have had the honor of introducing Nancy Hutchinson, a resident of Door County, to the Wisconsin State Assembly as a Hometown Hero for her selfless efforts to provide support to our service members overseas.

“Over 9 years ago, Nancy put together a care package for her son’s best friend who was on his first deployment for the Marine Corp. These were the humble beginnings of Adopt-A-Soldier Door County, an organization Nancy founded and which has grown at an exponential rate in the following years, now sending over 1,500 care packages to those serving in our armed forces each year.

“The men and women who put their lives on the line for our country sacrifice not only their safety and their time, but they also sacrifice the small comforts of home that many of us take for granted. These packages provide a sensory connection to those back home and allow soldiers to share and create new memories with members of their squad.

“Nancy supports our soldiers in such a profound way by not only generously giving her own time and energy to this cause, but also by inspiring countless other 1st district residents to join her in volunteering to do the same. On the eve of Veterans Day, it is important we honor and celebrate not only our brave veterans, but also those who devote their lives to supporting our men and women in uniform. For these reasons and more, Nancy Hutchinson truly is a Hometown Hero.”
