Madison… Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) is doing her part for National Prescription Drug Take Back day, April 29, 2017, by raising awareness for local drug take back locations.

“It is important to properly dispose of unused or expired prescription medications,” said Ballweg. “Not only do we not want these medications getting into the wrong hands, but we also don’t want them poured down the drain, since these medications could lead to contamination of our water supply.”

Drop off locations can be found around the state, and collection programs and events are held throughout the year. Controlled and uncontrolled substances, over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, creams, non-aerosol sprays, vials, and pet medications can be safely disposed of at these events.

Directions to dispose of these drugs include removing pills from their original container, and placing them into a sealed Ziploc bag. Empty pill bottles can be disposed of in your home recycling.
