MADISON – Ahead of the anticipated U.S. House of Representatives vote on the American Health Care Act today, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) is sharing an open letter to Speaker Paul Ryan inviting him to tour a Planned Parenthood health center in his district and highlighting the impact this dangerous, politically motivated legislation would have in Wisconsin.
In the letter, PPWI President and CEO Tanya Atkinson underscores the important health care Planned Parenthood provides. One in five women has been a patient of Planned Parenthood, and 75 percent of Americans oppose efforts to block access to the essential health care Planned Parenthood provides.
Since the proposal to “defund” Planned Parenthood was announced, many people have shared the profound impact the care they received at Planned Parenthood has had on their lives. Speaker Ryan should listen to his constituents Gina and Lori, whose access to Planned Parenthood’s diagnostic care and cancer screenings allowed them to have children; or Christy who credits a Planned Parenthood doctor with saving her life. See videos of their stories here.

These patient stories shed a light on what really happens at Planned Parenthood. The more Wisconsinites see how their communities have been impacted by Planned Parenthood, the less support they have for Speaker Paul Ryan’s disastrous legislation.
